  • Hey guys, my name is Kierra and I'm a 21 year old college student originally from Chicago but now live in MD, as I attend Howard University. I was scheduled to graduate this December up until my recent ordeal. To help pay for rent (1300) because i had just lost my roommate, I had been working more hours as a server to cover costs. I work in a neighborhood of DC called Adams Morgan. February 12th around 4 am, my self and a coworker were waiting for Uber after getting off of work. When a drunk and belligerent man walked passed yelling at us, saying things like he could have robbed the male coworker I was with and cursing but we just ignored him. A few minutes passed and he came back harassing again and we told him to leave us alone, he then approached us and punched my friend in the face and then proceeded to fight me as if i was a man. I tried to defend myself as much as I could and my coworker called for the police that were riding by on bikes but they replied with "they have no time for us". I have police and medical reports to validate everything.
As result of the altercation, I had facial contusions and now have a broken ankle, keeping me from working my job as a server and because of the pain medications I've been advised to take time off which is causing me to fall behind in school. I'm just not sure what to do and have been feeling very depressed lately.
I am now in a cast for 6 weeks and I'm just reaching out to anyone that can help with my bills and rents for the month of March and April since I will not be able to work again probably til the middle of April and i no longer have a roommate to split rent. This is my last option, as my mom was laid off last year and we have not found enough help. Any donations or prayers is greatly appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read.

This would be short-term disability, not long term. You should be able to apply.

That's actually not true. There is short term disability if you paid into it. If your employer offers it you should ALWAYS take it.
